2019 Buick Envision is Right-Sized Premium

2019 Buick Envision

The 2019 Buick Envision brings a slight update for the well-done two-row crossover in the midsize segment. With a focus on comfort, the Envision has good everyday appeal. A restyled front end, interior ergonomics changes, and a new turbocharged engine are highlights for the 2019 model year. The 2019 Envision earned an “A-” rating in my review at iSeeCars and a “B” rating at CarNewsCafe.

The 2019 Buick Envision is a generalist, offering good all-around usefulness and versatility in a market replete with other great options. The Envision sets itself apart, though, with its focus on comfort and premium appeal without getting into the pricey luxury segments.

A restyled front and rear end help smooth the sometimes polarizing “pointy face” Buick look of the previous Envision model in this generation of the crossover-SUV. Inside, the Envision gets a few more comfort and daily-use ergonomics changes for better daily drive performance. Underneath the bodywork, the new 2019 Envision gets a much-needed turbocharged engine option and an improved automatic transmission to go with it.

How Useful Is the 2019 Buick Envision As a Family Hauler?

On the daily, the Envision is roomy and comfortable, with a lot of goodness in the details. With a modern motif for its design, the interior of the 2019 Envision is on par with any entry-level luxury ride in the midsize segment. Standard features like dual-zone climate, rear parking sensors (to go with the camera), and an 8-inch touchscreen for infotainment are a boon and justify the premium price tag on the Envision.

Seating in the 2019 Buick Envision is comfortable and well-placed. The kids were especially fond of the roomy rear bench with its well-defined outboards and wide seats. Nothing in the Buick feels cheap either, with a good eye towards materials quality being the norm.

Cargo space in the 2019 Envision is also of good, useful size. There are 26.9 cubic feet behind the second row; enough for any grocery-grab or a weekly box store run. Dropping the rear bench leaves a flat loading floor with 57.3 cubic feet of space. Even a serious bi-annual box store TP and pantry provisioning run would fit in there. Convenient remote release handles to drop the rear bench (which is split-fold) are a nice touch.

Expected Reliability/Dependability and Value

Reliability expectations for the 2019 Buick Envision are pretty good. Just about every outlet surveyed. J.D. Power and Associates’ VDS gives it “Better Than Most” and Consumer Reports says the Envision is about average.  Similarly, safety scores are very good for the Buick and its value proposition is good if apples-to-apples comparisons are made.

Which Version of the 2019 Buick Envision Would We Buy?

The base model’s low price and high number of amenities is tempting, of course, but I think jumping up to the Premium or Premium II trim is more conducive to getting a large amount of technology and convenient comfort without breaking the bank. These upgrades include the better engine and price the Envision at the premium market level while making it comparable to most luxury options.

Radio Setting and Kid Approvals

The 2019 Buick Envision seemed most comfortable on the Bluegrass Junction station from SiriusXM (channel 62). The kids seemed to think that this was a good fit and bounced to the jangling banjo picking while enjoying the roomy back seat.

A Note on Our Process: Reviews here are based on Aaron’s reviews found around the Web. The goal here is to forego the usual “horsepower and capability” jargon of most automotive reviews and instead focus on how well the vehicle is as a regular family hauler for a single dad.
