The kids wanted to make a volcano. I’d just pulled weeds out of a flower pot and figured that since the dirt was also going to go, that would be the perfect container for our volcano experiment. The kids thought it was pretty cool.
The ingredients are simply baking soda and red wine vinegar (because it’s red, yo!). We moistened the soil and build the volcano mound around a little pile of baking soda. On our second attempt, we added some baking soda to the mound itself (especially in the base) for a more spectacular crumble and “woosh” effect.
This is a fun and easy thing that will thrill the kids to no end. Especially if you involve them in the process of going to the store for the ingredients and getting hands-on with the design and building process.
